Back Home

A quick update: Dad wasn't in the hospital as long this time. He's back home and recovering. October seems to be a time that he catches infections. Must be the change in the season. Thank you all for keeping him in your thoughts.

Stubborn Bugs

Dear Friends of Denny,

Well, unfortunately, this bug is a stubborn one. Dad has gone back to the hospital as the infection picked up again. This time the ambulance took him to Mad River, where he has been receiving wonderfully attentive care. Mom reports that he is feeling alert and doing well. He even had some PT (physical therapy) yesterday. We're hoping that he'll be feeling well enough to come back home soon. Please keep him in your thoughts.

Home again, home again

Dear Friends of Denny,

I'm glad to report that Dad is home again after having responded well to the antibiotics. He's definitely much happier. We'll keep you posted on his progress.

In the meantime, here's an adorable picture of Dad with grandkids Sean and Kacie from this summer.

Long hiatus

Dear Friends of Denny,

I am so sorry for the long wait in between posts. The summer came and I fell down on the job. Dad had a great summer with lots of visits from grand-kids and a wonderful 50th Anniversary in August! Unfortunately, he got an infection last week and has spent the last few days in the hospital. He's sounding better each day, but is pretty bored and ready to be back at the ranch. If all goes well, he should be heading home tomorrow or the next day. I'll keep you posted (and you won't have to wait four months to hear, I promise).

In the meantime, I'll be posting some pictures from this summer's fun.

Davis Family Reunion!

Last month, Dad and Mom traveled south to Citrus Heights for a Davis Family (Mom's side) reunion. Grandma Edie, the matriarch, called us all together and all the cousins with one exception made it there. A pretty impressive turn-out of four generations!  Dad was a trooper, and we got lucky with the weather. It was *only* in the 90s, but the park had a beautiful covered picnic area. The most exciting part was all of Dad's kids and grandkids were together, and he got to spend time with his newest granddaughter, Kacie Rose (see below).

Memorial Day

Dear Friends of Denny,

We apologize for such a long wait between posts. Don't worry, though, all is well here. Dad had a great month of May -- it is, after all, his birthday month! We have lots of pictures to add, so there will be a flurry of posts here at the beginning of June to make up for our slow May.

To start with, Dad and Mom had a lovely Memorial Day Weekend. They enjoyed Humboldt's own Kinetic Sculpture Race and saw their nephew, Lucas, who was debuting his first time at the helm of a sculpture. It had a built in pun (Mountain-earring), so it was Dad's favorite all around. [Unfortunately, the 'ear' on the mountain isn't visible in these pictures]

They also went with Grandma Edie to visit their parents/grandparents who are resting at Oceanview Cemetery. Dad says he misses them a lot and that they were good people, which is true. All in all, it was a lovely weekend.

 Stay tuned for more soon!

Happy Easter, Happy Spring!

Dear Friends of Denny,

We hope you and your family had a lovely time for Easter. Dad and Mom's favorite blue-eyed daughter came home to celebrate with them. They enjoyed meeting the new lambs (and giving them their nightly feedings).

The weather was a little changeable (see the hail above), but there were some beautiful moments for enjoying the sun on the porch.

One of the highlights of the visit was the Easter Egg Roll at the Arcata Plaza. Turns out, it is the same egg roll that Mom used to enjoy when she was a little girl!

It was a wonderful visit, but too short.

March Madness! (Or coming in like a lion and out like a lamb)

Dear Friends of Denny,

It has been a crazy couple of weeks at the Cahill ranch, but Dad is doing very well.  First Mom and Dad hosted a St. Patty's Day dinner for some friends, which was wonderfully fun. As you probably know, St. Patrick's Day is one of Dad's favorite holidays. In the words of Grandpa Mike's favorite Irish toast, Here's to those who wish us well, those who don't can go to..."

The animals have taken center stage this month. Shadow the dog had a bit of surgery, but is back to keeping Dad company on his walks.

But most exciting has been the new additions to the Cahill family. The sheep have been busy and the fields are full of new lambs. The Dad, Mom, grandkids and even the neighbors have had a wonderful time thinking up names for them.

Triplets!

Some of the little guys need some extra TLC

Dad also enjoyed watching lots of basketball this month at HSU and SB. He was thrilled to cheer the Lady Crusaders on to their championship in NorCal Sections!

Returning Home

Dear Friends of Denny,

Dad finally made it home on Thursday. He is feeling much happier as he really dislikes hospitals and gets fairly bored. As usually, the hospital stay has meant a bit of a setback in his physical therapy and strength. This is a little disappointing as before that he was making good progress, as you can see from the picture in the post below, which was taken before the hospital stay. But, now that he is home, we hope that he will quickly regain his strength and get back on track.

Here's a picture I forgot to post. For Valentine's Day Mom surprised Dad with a singing telegraph from Arcata High students. How sweet!

Small Setback

Dear Friends of Denny,

Well, I think I jinxed it last post. Dad got an infection and went back to the hospital. Unfortuantely, he has to stay in while receiving his anitbiotic treatment, so he'll be there for a few more days. He's doing pretty well, but he is bored. Because St. Joe's was full, they sent him down to Fortuna. It is a very nice hospital and Mom and Dad have been very impressed with the great care he's received. We know you are keeping him in your thoughts and we appreciate it.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Dear Friends of Denny -

Here's wishing you a very happy St. Valentine's Day!

Dad's been having a great month. He's been on a number of outings, including Friday lunch with his buddies, HSU games, and walks around town. Because the new year has rolled around, he's been able to start his physical therapy again.  He's been working on strengthening his  leg muscles as well as his arms. As you can see below, he's doing a great job.

He is feeling very well and would be happy to have visitors if you are out Bayside way.

Happy New Year!

Dear Friends of Denny,

Here's wishing you and yours a happy and healthy 2015! Denny and Pam rang in the New Year with dinner at a friend's house and send their thoughts out to everyone out there who touched their lives in 2014.

As you can see, Dad and Mom were surrounded by all of their grandkids at the end of 2014. We'll tell you all about it in the next post. Until then, be happy, healthy and safe!
